Right this weekend I made it out with the mountain bike club again. Tho this time I made it out of harlestone firs! I followed the group out to Pitsford resevoir and back via Kingsthorp and Abingdon. Lots of fun on the way with a way cool little play area in a park (not shure what its called). I also discovered that me front mech is completely jammed (oh well time dissasemble and learn how they work). I also learnt I need to get fitter as it has taken me all of Monday to fully recover (that doesnt sound good). Oh well it should get easier from here! These pictures were taken on the way to Pitsford resevoir, and depict the picturesque rolling countryside we live in. Right back to work!

Whent back to the xscape ski slope today for some more fun and frolics. This time with my cousin and his girlfriend in tow. Had a lot of fun and even got around to playing with some of the toys there as you can see from my photos!

In case you live in some far flung country, it has infact been snowing in the uk yesterday and today! As a result i felt compeled to go outside and play in the anual 2 day sprikling of snow we get here. Whilest out playing with the bike in the woods I thought id take some pics. So i finally made it to the snow dome last week just before christmass!!!!!! It doesnt compare to the real thing but its enough to keep me going for the time beeing!!! Yep we are still here, headding to death valley later tho. We went down the strip again yesterday and saw some more of the shows (the sirens at treasure island was awsome, The circus was diffrent and the moving statues at caesers palace was freakey). There is certainly a lot of things to see and do here. We played on the kids arcade machines and collected enough tokens to claim a prize! I would deffinitley like to come back here again with a little (as opposed to no) money so i could do a few more things!

Las Vegas

Well we are here. Spent yesterday cruzing upand down the strip. Its kind of cool all the shows and the casinos are completly outlandish. The day time is definitley not when to see this place as its too hot. Night time is much better! We are running a bit low on cash at the end of out trip so no gambling for us (well we might play the slot machine once). We are however enjoying all the free stuff that goes on round here. Las vegas is deffinitly somthing diffrent.

The volcano eruption at the mirrarge is brill and the dancing fountains at the bellagio are amazing! We are going to stay here one more night then head on to yosemite via death valley.

flagstaff

so we moved on from LA and are now in flagstaff!!!! we got here two days ago after diving through thte desert at night (we are in arizona). We whent to see the grand canyon yesterday, It we fantastic and verry humbling. Its kind of the reverse of where ive been living in canada and it is indeed verry big! lots of photos agin but no way to upload them at the mo. We stayed to watch the sunset over the canyon which was spectacular and somthing ill remember. We went out last night for the first time since seattle so we all have sore heads today. the plan was to head to see some ancient native american dwellings (yay history over 400 years!!!). so we will see what happens. then tonight we are off to las vegas.so lots of fun. should be spending halloween in vegas!!!!

Last night we went to the 25th aniversery celebrations for BET (Black Entertainment Television). Which was interesting coz we were all from england and none of us were of african decent! that said it was an awsome experience and got to see loads of live acts (alicia keys, ll cool j, earth wind and fire!?!? we had lots of fun and crawled back to the hostel late last night (I wound up sleeping in the van to save money). Today we should be heading to the grand canyon, if heather hasnt changed her mind (that girl will be the death of me!!!!)

Holywood!

So we spent yesterday walking down the beach from santa monica tovenice beach and back, then we headed to holywood. We whent to a special show to celebrate the release of a film about jhonny cash's life and commemorate his death. The stars of the film were there and we got in a seat fillers (long story) suffice it to say we were in $300 seats for free!!! We saw cheral crow, chris christofeerson, nora jones, jery lee lewis, and others and were sat near loads of celebs. Today we spent most of it at universal studios and the evening at a tBET special time running out so will add more tomorrow...

Well today we continued our journey from obisbo to los Angelis. On the way we stopped off at Pismo beach. And hired the biggest over powerd quad bikes we could find. Partly to celebrate my health insurance beeing extended today. I was let louse for 2 hours with a beast of an ATV in the dunes along pismo beach!!!! We spent the day launching thes things off and dunes and scaring ourselves when we realised the dune dropped away faster on the other side. was verry awsome and one of the best things we have done. After that we headded on to Los Angelis. When we got here we promptly got lost going the wrong way down the santa monica boulavard and wound up in beverly hills (cue cheasy radio song). However we manged to make our way to the hostel , where we got a $35 parking ticket whilest checking in!!!! Oh well If thats the worst thing that happerns on this trip ill be happy (baring in mind we have mexico and las vagas to go). Right time on this thing is running out so thats all for now. P.S. hores riding was awsome on the beach!!! we are continuing down the coast and are now in a place called san louis obisbo. We passed big sur on the way down. a truly amazing place that a local described as a machine of surfing waves. Basicly the mountains just drop into the sea there! right time to continue on to Los Angelis!

well were here. at the moment we are in santa cruze and having lots of fun with the laid back atmosphere. Kinda remindes me of lake louise but with hot weather and a beace and no mountains. We went to the mystery spot today its a crooked house where things appear to defy gravity n stuff. Then cruised down to the beach. next stop is LA!!!!!

next we headed out to the coast, but not before a bit of confusion over the route. We are navigating by a large map of America, and its scupperd us a few times. Anyway me made it to the coast and headed down the pacific 101 highway to klamath in california.

So after the volcanoes, we got as far as portland before we stopped for the night. Not much to say about portland as we whent straight to the hostel and slept then left first thing in the morning. It seemed like a nice place tho, we were just in a hurry to be elsewhere. Sorry ...

Mt st Helens

we left seattle and headed straight for mt st healens via mt Rainer. Both ar volcanic mountains (with mt st healens obviously beeing active). Both were stunning, but mt st healens was the most poinient. What had once been a thriving holiday comunity is now a deserted skeleton. for a couple of miles around the mountain what had once been hevily forrested mountains is now populated by dead tree husks. Spirit lake is now filled with floating logs washed awy from the hill sides. All in all a verry orthwile trip. The roads up throught the mountains were narrow twisty and turny, just the kind dad would like!!!!

before we ventured into the states we spent some time on vancouver island, mostly in tofino on the west coast looking out over the paciffic. Its a great place and we had a number of adventures. Trying to camp and waking up witha puddle under the tent from all the rain was one. but anyways, here are the photos!

Right sorry for the delay in posting again, but ive been away from the internet for a while. We are now in Seattle, having made it accross the border and are about to head down the coast. Seattle is realy cool , weve been up the space needle and been tot the fish market. There famouse for throwing the fish around when you order it (the mostly do it for the tourists). Met lots of people here and been having a really good time. We whent on a tour of the seattle "underground" they raised the streest up between 14 to 35 feet to stop flodding, leaving the old ground floor blow the level of the street, hence creating an almost undegroud city of shop fronts. Ive also got my card reader on me so it photo time!!!!!

hey, havent posted for a while as things have been kinda heactic getting sorted for this road trip then actually road tripping. Am in vancouver now, left lake louise on monday and sofar have been to jasper, mt robson, kamloops and kelowna. next we are heading to whisler and then vancouver island and seatle. We havent planned beyond that. Things are going good, heather and I are havent killed each other yet tho she keeps threatening to buy an ice axe. We have pimped out the doge caravan with a power inverter so we have electricity.

At the moment we are staying at one of heathers families houses, and are invited o thanks giving dinner today.

We have been invancouver for 3 days and already bumped into 6 people we knew from the lake randomly in the street. Things are good and i kinda like this place.

we have taken lots of photos and i still have lots from the lake still that i will be posting as soon as this hangover goes away and i can find the adaptor to upload the pics with.

Sorry about the lack of posts recently, mum and dad came to visit so i was bisey with that. Since then ive been working hard to save money for travelling. Things are good and i think mum and dad enjoyed the visit. They took lots of photos and ill try and get hold of some soon. Things are getting more winery out here and the mountains are absolutly coverd with snow. Ill try and take some pics. Right ive got to dash, willl be posting again as soon as things calm down again.

Was riding my bike home yesterday evening carrying my dinner, when a tourist steped out into my way leaving my with two choices mow them down or hit the breaks. unfortunately when i hit the breaks i whent head first over the handel bars . I know have a nast gash on my knee, a big hole in my jeans and ive done somthing to my big toe. These tourists are a liability, they wonder around dont pay attention and are in a complete world of their own.

anyways thats my rant for today, not quite walking properly, but im goining in to work this afternoon all the same!

Not much happening round here at the mo, The weather has gone from 28c 2 days ago to snow! yep the tops of the montains are coverd in cloud and mid mountain up is snow. Its august for goodnes sake! so not mush to do but sit chill and drink beer. Ill try to get some photos coz it look awsome. Mum n dad arrive in a week, so lots of things to sort between now and then. Things are a little quiet round here at the moment. TJ's mum and family are round so we are all trying to behave. The house is clean, nobody is realy drinking and we are all trying to save money. So lots of work and enjoying the mountains going on. Things are still busie at work so I'm trying to mak hay while the sun shines so to speak. Might wonder down to the river in a bit.

Its been a busiey week. Lots of photos to follow. We made a trip out to panorama mountain biking again. This time i pushed my self a bit more. And so i took a few tumbles. Ok several tumbles ... head first over the bike ... down some steep slopes ... then got smacked by the bike ... a lot. My sholder is still sore, but was lots of fun, very warm and we got some good photos. On the way back we got some awsome views of caslte mountain through the clouds and stopped to take pics.

Geramy (my room mate and one of the guys on our bike trips) left for home (edmonton) on wednesday, so has been a little wierd as i now have a room to myself. Also the house is noticably quieter. Anyways we gave him a good send off and got absolutly trashed on wednesday night!

I managed to sort off time off work as well for when my parents come out. Ive got the 1st and second, then the 10th to 14th off.

So thats what ive been upto, Ill post the pictures when i can. If youve been upto anything interestin this week email me or stick it in a comment to this post. Only one person has left a comment here so far (thanks emily)!!!

Winter Jobs in the alps

As you may or may not know, I am currently looking for a job in the alps for this coming winter. What I want to know is why do all of them seem to want me to attend an interview in London sometime in the next few months (one of them wants me to attend one on the 14th of August)! Not much really, this post is just a chance for me to vent about this. If anybody has any ideas for work in the alps any help would be usefull. Im getting lots of replies, but they all seen to be expecting me to currently be in the UK, or to be returning to the UK upto 3 months befor the job starts. By the way if Lydia is reading this there are lots of nanying jobs in europe advertised at www.natives.co.uk

Lake Agness

So I finally made it up to the lake hiking yesterday. After work I cycled 4km up a mountain to the lake, then hiked another 3-4km up a mountain to lake agness and the tea house there. I also lugged my bike all the way up there as i didnt want to leave it sitting around at the lake! Its a bit of a trek but well worth it. The views are awsome and I got to see mirroe lake on the way up too. Met the staff of the tea house up there to. Really cool people who actually live up there all summer. They have no running water and swim in the glacier fed lake instead of having a shower! I was intending to hike my bike all the way back down, but it was too tempting, and I wound up riding it all the way back down the trail all the way to home. I took lots of photos, but I seem to have left my camera at the house. Ill try to get them up later today.

Jam Night

Damn jam night. Every week i say im going for a single beer to listen to the music and relax, then wind up staggering home at 2 am! hmmm. Oh well there are worse things that could happen. Plan to make it to the backside of the lake somtime in the next couple of days. Apparntly its a nice hike. Got to do more hiking so many mountains and so little time! Not much else going on just chillin and enjoyin the weather. Right ive got 2 hours before work, so it looks like im not going to make it upto the lake today! Im off to get sorted for work. By the way might be going rafting again next week.

Adventure

I love this place. Only out here is it a mission to buy groceries and get a really nice pint of beer. We spent most of yesterday begging and borrowing lifts and trucks so we could get to canmore and experience the joys of civilisation (i.e. food that doesnt cost the earth!!!). We also discoverd a pub with a micro brewry!!! Then hiked to the other end of the valley to pick up sombody from the hills truck they had left there and drive it back to lake louise for them. We took the 1a (the verry sceenic rout, with trees in the middle of the road!!!). So 2 hours each way to buy food and a pint of beer!

Finaly spotted my first bear today. Was a black bear at the side of the road. I think it was the orphan bear thats been haninging around the lake louise town site for the past couple of days (yesterday he was sat in a tree outside the post hotel and refused to move). Parks canada have been closing bits of the village to keep people away from him.

Hey, the week whent fast, lots of sunshine here (its 26 degrees c). So lots of lazing around in the sun. Finally got round to white water rafting on the kicking horse river today !!! Was awsome!!! Spent the first run in the front and the second second from the front. Deffinitely want to go again! Just orderd the photos, so will post some soon.

Well another weekend over and not much achived. Hiked upto the lake today and actually took some photos (ill try to get them up as soon as i can). Just chillin out and enjouying the good weather.
